BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Some Battle Creek residents are being relocated after an apartment fire broke out Thursday morning.
The Battle Creek fire department was called to the River Apartments on Stringham Road around 5:30am to discover flames billowing out of the 2nd and 3rd floor balcony area.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze and helped evacuate occupants. One resident was treated after jumping off the balcony.
The fire was confined two half of the building and 3 units had major fire damage.
All 24 units of the apartment complex were marked as uninhabitable and the American Red Cross is helping relocate residents for the time being.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
