UNDATED (WTVB) – The latest statement from the National Weather Service Thursday afternoon on an approaching winter storm indicates even higher accumulations of snow are expected.
Forecasters are now calling for between 10 and 14 inches of snow as a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 9:00 p.m. Thursday night until 12:00 midnight on Friday night for Branch, Hillsdale, Calhoun, St. Joseph and Steuben Counties.
The warning has been extended to cover all of southern Michigan as well as the border counties of Indiana and northwest Ohio.
The heavier amounts of snow are expected to fall along the Michigan border counties which includes Branch County.
Travel will be very difficult to impossible, including during the morning and evening commute on Friday. Drivers should be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times.
Ahead of the storm, Clemens Food Group in Branch County decided to shut down operations for Friday.
The Bronson at Quincy varsity basketball games were pushed back to Thursday night. The Quincy High School Hall of Fame induction was delayed from Friday night to next Friday, February 16th.
Snow emergencies were declared in Bronson and Quincy as local officials asked residents to get their cars out of the street so that plows could clear away the snow.
With nearly a foot of snow in the forecast for Friday, some folks crowded their ways into stores to stock up on food and other items in anticipation of being hunkered down for at least one day.
