LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — MSU has transmitted thousands of documents to the Attorney General’s office but missed a Friday deadline to transmit information to the Michigan House, asking for an extension. Committee Chair Kim LaSata of Stevensville granted that extension.
LaSata says they say they need that information to help them draft bills.
Portage State Senator Margaret O’Brien says they know enough already about Larry Nassar and what happened at MSU to begin drafting legislation
She says that she has been working with Tonya Schuitmaker since Christmas to change existing laws and create new ones to protect people from abuse.
For instance adding sports coaches to the list of those adults required to report to authorities when they know of abuse. They plan to start dropping bills in the hopper soon.
She says if additional legislation is called for after the investigations are concluded, then they can move on those too.
