COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A group of citizens who are concerned about the Branch County Jail have formed a committee and they want to help county commissioners find a solution to the ongoing problems at the facility.
Coldwater City Councilman Cisco Ortiz served as a spokesperson for the group during Tuesday’s Branch County Board of Commissioners meeting, and he said the committee is made up of business owners and leaders, civic minded individuals, criminal justice administrators, and citizens who want to be involved.
Ortiz said the perception they want to express is to provide the community with a fiscally responsible, locally controlled, constitutionally sound and effectively operating confinement facility.
He said the group is willing to assist commissioners in gathering the support of the community to place a solution to this issue on the ballot this year.
Ortiz told commissioners the committee needs their support as they were willing to give commissioners their backing.
