HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – A Quincy woman was formally charged Thursday in connection with a traffic accident in Hillsdale County last November that led to the death of her two-year-old daughter.
26-year-old Chloe Rae Rubin has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injury.
Bond was set at $150,000 with ten percent allowed during her arraignment in Hillsdale County District Court.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for February 28, 2018 with a preliminary exam set for March 9.
The two vehicle head on crash happened on November 21, 2017 on U.S. 12 west of Thompson Road in Allen Township.
Hillsdale County Sheriff Timothy J. Parker stated in a department news release that the arrest is the result of an extensive investigation conducted by his department’s traffic investigation unit.
Both charges are felonies. The operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated casing death carries a maximum prison sentence of fifteen years while the operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injury felony has a maximum prison sentence of five years.
Deputies said at the time of the accident that Rubin’s vehicle was heading west when it crossed the centerline and collided with a eastbound vehicle driven by 52-year-old Melinda Margaret Teubert of Litchfield. The crash shut down traffic on U.S. 12 for several hours.
Rubin and Teubert were badly injured in the wreck. Rubin’s two year old daughter Raelinn died from her injuries the day after the accident.
