BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan National Guard at Fort Custer will be stepping onto the front line of America’s defense when they launch their new Cyber Operations Squadron Saturday at the home of the 110th Fighter Squadron in Battle Creek.
The unit has been in development for two years and will mean 70-new jobs. Major Dan Guy, who will be the commander of the unit says it actually began 9-years ago when cyber professionals saw the potential and began working in small groups.
The focus of the operation won’t be fending off Russian attempts to sway elections, or protecting your credit. Rather it will bethere to secure Department of Defense computer networks from hackers and foreign attempts to disable them.
Michigan’s two Senators, Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters will both be on hand for the 4:00 pm ceremony.
