KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Who is the latest to get swept up by immigration agents?
A Kalamazoo physician with a good reputation, a job at Bronson Healthcare, a wife and a child, who has been in the U.S. since he was 3-years old is sitting in the Calhoun County Jail this weekend after he was picked up by Immigration Agents Tuesday.
His wife says Dr. Lukasz Niec has a clean record, except for a couple of misdemeanors when he was a teen over 20-years ago, and a few traffic violations since.
The 43-year-old native of Poland has a green card, which they believed allowed him to stay and work in the U.S. as long as he wanted.
ICE in Detroit hasn’t commented. Neither has Bronson Hospital.
His wife and supporters are apparently waiting for a hearing before an immigration judge, and trying to get a bond hearing in the interim.
The Federal Government has a contract with Calhoun County providing cells in their jail for people being held by federal agencies.
