COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A state prison inmate from Detroit who is charged in connection with an attack on three Lakeland Correctional Facility officers last March was arraigned Thursday in Branch County District Court.
33-year-old Jonathan Roundtree is facing counts of assault of a prison employee and being a prisoner in possession of a weapon.
Roundtree is accused of having a shank in his possession when the confrontation took place.
His probable cause hearing was scheduled for next Thursday with a preliminary exam set for July 18, 2018.
At the time of the incident, Roundtree was serving time for being one of three suspects trying to smuggle contraband, cellphones and weapons to prisoners at the Ionia Prison in August of 2017.
His record which goes back to 2002 includes crimes for car jacking, receiving and concealing stolen property and altering pistols.
