COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Lakeland Fire Department Chief Paul Searing says an elderly man who was pulled out of Coldwater Lake late Tuesday afternoon had an apparent health issue before falling out of a boat and into the water.
Branch County Central 911 Dispatch said a woman who was fishing in a nearby boat called 911 around 5:00 p.m. when she spotted a man floating in the water on the northeast end of Iyopawa Island.
According to Central Dispatch, it was five minutes after they received the call for help that the man was pulled out of the water.
There are conflicting reports on the man’s age as he was said to be either 80 or 90.
Searing says bystanders administered CPR before rescue crews from Life Care Ambulance and the Lakeland Fire Department got to the scene.
The man was taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital where Searing says he was pronounced dead.
Lakeland Fire Department First Responders were on the scene for less than an hour.
