BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Toxic perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also known as PFAS, has been detected in private water wells around Kellogg Airport in Battle Creek, raising concerns among homeowners in the area.
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and state and county health officials are now planning a town hall meeting to bring everyone up to date and explain their plans for additional testing in the area.
Officials say most initial test results were below the “EPA Health Advisory Level,” but they say more testing is necessary to determine if the contamination is posing a risk to drinking water in the area.
They add that residents in the yellow circled area on the map should attend.
The meeting will be Monday July 30th at the Burma Center on Upton Avenue in Springfield.
There will be an open house at 5:30 p.m. and a presentation at 6:30 p.m. followed by a public comment opportunity.
