GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — The man accused of the brutal strangulation murder of Mujey Dumbuya stood up towards the end of his preliminary hearing Friday and announced he was waiving the proceeding, but by then it may have been moot.
The Prosecutor had already spent 6 hours questioning 15 witnesses who all gave credence to the claim that Quinn James killed the 16-year-old to prevent her from testifying that he raped her repeatedly.
Her body was found earlier this year along a wooded trail in a Kalamazoo neighborhood where James used to live.
During the hearing, it was revealed that Dumbuya’s body had bleach poured on it to destroy evidence, but despite that, they were able to find James DNA on her jeans, and that her blood was found in a rental car James used.
No trial date has been set yet.
Alleged accomplice Jerell Bennett was also bound over.
GALESBURG (WKZO AM/FM) — A quick thinking drug store employee is being called a hero after she foiled a drug rip-off at the Galesburg Pharmaciy Friday morning. A man walked in with a handgun and demanded painkillers, leaving the store with a bundle. He jumped into a white van where a getaway driver was waiting and sped off, but not before the clerk was able to snap a picture of the van with her cellphone as it left, complete with license number.
Detectives were quickly able to trace it to an address in Portage, where they found the van, took a man and a woman into custody and recovered the stolen drugs. The couple has been booked into the County Jail on armed robbery charges.
