COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The next Superintendent of the Branch Intermediate School District will be from the immediate area.
The BISD Board of Education unanimously agreed Tuesday night to offer the position to Calhoun Intermediate School District Assistant Superintendent Kristine Jenkins.
She has served as Assistant Superintendent of Regional Career and Technical Education for the Calhoun I.S.D. for the past 14 years. Before that, Jenkins served as an Elementary Principal, grant writer and teacher with the Tekonsha Community Schools.
Jenkins holds a Masters degree in K-12 Educational Leadership from Michigan State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Eastern Michigan University.
The Board conducted second-round interviews with Jenkins Tuesday night and Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District Assistant Superintendent Nicolas Steinmetz Monday night.
When contacted after the board’s decision, Jenkins said she was honored and excited to be the district’s next Superintendent.
There were 15 applications for the job which became open when current Superintendent Joe Lopez announced recently he was going to retire in July.
