CALHOUN COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — A Battle Creek man who nearly beat his dog to death has had his animal cruelty conviction upheld on appeal.
The Michigan Court of Appeals decided David Hursley will serve at least four years in prison.
In 2016, police say Hursley attacked his Husky with a baseball bat because he was begging for food.
The dog had to be shot by a responding police officer to end its suffering.
His sentence was enhanced because of Hursley’s lengthy criminal record, which includes several drunk driving arrests, auto theft and prison escape.
