HOMER, MI (WTVB) – A Branch County man was killed Tuesday night in a single vehicle accident in Calhoun County south of Homer. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. in Clarendon Township in the 23,000 block of South County Line Road.
According to a news release, deputies determined that the driver of the vehicle was eastbound when he lost control and struck a tree on the north side of the road. The 25-year old driver from Branch County was pronounced dead at the scene. The 33-year old passenger, a man from Homer, was taken to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo by helicopter with critical injuries.
No names have been released. The accident remains under investigation, but deputies believe that speed was a factor in the crash. It’s not known if alcohol was involved pending completion of standard toxicology tests.
Deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police, Air Care, Marshall Ambulance, Reading Ambulance and The Homer Fire Department.
