KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Two teenagers who used the internet to lure a victim to a mugging are in custody, after the victim, a military veteran decided he was not going to get robbed.
The 23-year-old from Portage was lured to a parking lot on East Main to sell a gaming system he advertised on the internet Thursday.
He was met by a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old who planned to take the game without paying. In the struggle that followed, the vet was struck a couple of times, but he gave as good as he got, and the pair fled when the vet produced a hunting knife from his car.
The two teens ran, but were followed by the Batallion Chief at a nearby firestation who witnessed the robbery and guided Public Safety to the teens.
They were taken into custody.
17-year-old Zaquary Hill has been charged with unarmed robbery as an adult. The younger teen is being held at the juvenile home.
