COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -A Coldwater High School student who was injured Monday afternoon when he was struck in the head with a shot put during track and field practice is recovering at C.S. Mott Hospital in Ann Arbor.
15-year-old Zakariya Saeed was flown there after first being taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
Lifecare Ambulance and the Coldwater Fire Rescue were dispatched to the high school at 4:25 p.m. on Monday afternoon following the accident. After ambulance crews cared for Saeed for almost a half hour, he was taken to ProMedica before he was flown out.
Saeed is a sophomore at Coldwater High School. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
His aunt, Nykke Wing Mitchell, said on her Facebook page that Saeed has “A little facial swelling, a really swollen head and a really bad headache. But he’s alive and will heal”.
She added the doctors are repeating cat scans because he is still having a a lot of bleeding from his ear and has significant hearing loss. Mitchell is hoping once they get his swelling down and bleeding to stop that he will be back to normal.
