Stormy weather overnight may be blamed for a fire at a home in the 5600 block of Tradewind Drive in Portage early Sunday morning.
While most of us were sound asleep or listening to a hard rain on the roof, the residents of this home were no doubt shaken out of their beds by what fire officials suspect was a direct hit from a lightning bolt that started a fire in the attic of the home.
The first Portage Public Safety crews on the scene at 2:36 AM report a light smoke coming from the roof and from the eaves, with all occupants out of the structure.
They found an active fire in the attic that took about an hour to douse.
By then the home had incurred extensive damage to the roof and attic.
There were no injuries.
