COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two Coldwater men were stabbed and a 22-year-old man from Fort Wayne is in custody following an apparent road rage incident in Coldwater late Thursday afternoon.
Coldwater Police say the two men, ages 38 and 47, were taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for treatment of what police described as non-life threatening injuries.
No names have been released in connection with the incident involving an SUV and a pickup truck which according to Coldwater Police started on Sprague Street.
Police say the 38-year old driver of the pickup and a passenger in the SUV began fighting when the vehicles stopped in front of the hospital. The Fort Wayne man then allegedly stabbed the pickup driver.
Police say the man who was stabbed got back into his pickup and started to chase the SUV.
Officers report the pickup turned onto Michigan Avenue and blocked the SUV.
The Fort Wayne man got out and approached the passenger side of the pickup where, according to police, he reached inside and stabbed the 47-year old man in the leg.
Nearby residents called 911 to report the disturbance.
When Coldwater Police reached the scene, they discovered that the SUV had left the area. It was later located along M-86 near Hodunk Road. The stabbing suspect was arrested on two preliminary charges of attempted murder. He is being held in the Branch County Jail.
A woman in the SUV was not detained but may eventually face charges.
