BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — The second suspect in a child abuse case in Battle Creek is cutting a deal with prosecutors.
Megan Schug was sentenced on Friday to 25 to 50 years in prison for first degree child abuse for the mistreatment of her four year old developmentally disabled son.
Doctors say the child was severely malnourished and showing signs of physical abuse when he was admitted in critical condition to the pediatric trauma unit at Bronson in Kalamazoo.
His mother first rushed him to the emergency center at Bronson Battle Creek, complaining he would not eat and they immediately suspected abuse.
Later she admitted to routinely beating him and forcing him to stay in a darkened closet.
On Monday, her boyfriend, Isaac Miller entered a plea to second degree child abuse for his role in the crimes.
He could get 3 to 10 years.
