UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) There will be dozens of Memorial Day events this weekend around West Michigan.
The largest will be the annual service at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta at 2 pm Sunday. It’s usually held the day before the holiday so that veterans can also attend their local ceremonies which will all be held on Monday.
The next largest events are the Parades and Memorial services in Kalamazoo and Portage, which are both staged at 10 am on Monday.
The Kalamazoo Event will follow Michigan Avenue and Church Street to Riverside Cemetery.
The Portage Parade follows Westnedge Avenue to the Veterans Memorial near the Portage Library.
Many small communities also plan parades, and many of them will end up at local cemeteries and memorials for services.
There will be an 8:00 am start to the parade in Saugatuck.
9:00 am parades will be held in Bangor, Caledonia, Coldwater Douglas, Hamilton, Hastings and South Haven.
At 9:15, the parade will kick off in Otsego and at 9:30, the parade will begin in Centreville.
Most parades will kick-off at 10:00 including those in Allegan, Cassopolis, Climax, Covert, Fennville, Lawrence, Hartford, Hickory Corners, Hopkins, Marshall, Martin, Paw Paw and Vicksburg.
Three communities plan 10:30 Parades; Middleville, Sturgis and Union City.
At 11:00, Bloomingdale, Dowagiac, Plainwell, Nashville, Watervliet and Wayland will begin parades.
Parades will be held at 12:00 in Casco, 1:00 in Decatur and in Pullman at 2:00
