UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Even though it’s been dry for the last week, officials are reminding residents to very careful on rivers and lakes as the water is still very high after it rained on 12 of the first 21 days of May.
Four persons including a four-year-old and a one-year-old had to be rescued Saturday night from the St. Joseph River in Union City.
Their raft was taking on water as the four were stranded in the river near the Pine Drive area.
Several area residents were able to extract them from the river safely as Union City Police and Michigan State DNR arrived.
Inexperienced river goers are being reminded that they should use caution since the river is very deep and the current is running fast.
