KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The homeless encampment at Mills St. in Kalamazoo has now been completely evacuated. The city of Kalamazoo finished closing the site on Wednesday afternoon. City officials say the main reason was related to safety as the camp is located in one of the Kalamazoo River’s flood zones. During the last few weeks, the city had communicated with people at the camp, informing them that they would need to leave soon. Among options for the homeless is a local hotel that has been converted into a shelter as well as another encampment on Ampersee Ave.
