KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Today may be the Fourth but they have already lit the fuses on two of the biggest fireworks shows in the region. The Light up the Lake event in South Haven and the Melrose Fireworks Show at the Field of Flight in Battle Creek were both viewed by huge crowds Friday night.
Most of the small town shows and a few of the big shows in Kalamazoo and Portage are still scheduled for this evening.
If you are conducting your own backyard fireworks show this evening, make sure you have a bucket of water or a hose charged and ready to go.
Mike McCleer with the fire prevention organization, ESCAPE says the big fireworks that are now legal in Michigan are an adult thing and need adult supervision. He says the most important rule is stay out of the line of fire.
Don’t look down the discharge chute to try and see why a dud didn’t fire.He says stay away from that firework for 20 to 30 minutes just in case.
