KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO)– No arrests have been made but the death of a 19-month old Kalamazoo Township child is now being called a homicide, and there are those who say it could have been prevented.
The autopsy lists blunt force trauma as the cause of death for Nysuin Charles Lewis who lived in the 200 block of West Dunkley with his mother and grandmother.
After allegations that Child Protective Services might have saved that child if they had intervened after receiving complaints, the State Office of Children’s Ombudsman has agreed to investigate the agency’s handling of the matter.
The Ombudsman’s office has also agreed to look into allegations that the death of an 18-month old in Mattawan may have been mishandled by CPS. In that case, 25-year-old Matthew Knobloch has been arrested and charged with open murder.
