PORTAGE (WKZO) — Portage investigators have ruled out alcohol as the cause of a crash that sent a Jeep careening into a power pole in the 700 block of West Milham Avenue early Sunday morning.
Police say it happened at about 3:30 a.m. when the 46-year-old Portage man, who was behind the wheel, was driving west bound near Nevada Street. They say, for some unknown reason, the Jeep went off the north side of the road and broke the pole in half.
The driver was not injured, but it took some time and a utility crew working through the morning to repair all the damage.
Roads in the area were closed for several hours overnight as crews worked to repair the pole and replace the lines.
The accident remains under investigation.
