BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — W.K. Kellogg Airport will be one of four cities in 2016 to host a national fly-in put together by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
“We’re going to have, plus or minus, 500 small, general-aviation aircraft arriving,” Larry Bowron, the city’s transportation director, said.
Bowron said the world’s largest aviation organization began looking for cites to hold the happenings in April.
“Boy, I just started thinkin’ that we have everything they want, and then some,” Bowron said. “Then I started getting phone calls from folks saying, ‘Hey, this is you guys — you ought to go for this.’”
Battle Creek beat out around 30 locations and is the first city in Michigan to host the event.
Thousands of aviation enthusiasts are expected to attend the exhibitions and seminars at the airport on Sept. 17.
