QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – A Branch County Amish couple suffered serious injuries Sunday afternoon when their horse drawn buggy was rear ended by a car in a hit-n-run collision. The crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. yesterday on Jonesville Road in Quincy Township.
Quincy Police Chief Scott Olney said the accident happened between Briggs and Clarendon Roads and the buggy was westbound when it was struck from behind and forced into a ditch. Rubin and Leeann Eicher were ejected from the buggy, which was totaled in the wreck. The suspect vehicle was described as a white Grand Prix, believed to be a 90’s model of the car, possibly driven by a female. There were no witnesses to the incident.
An off duty Hillsdale County volunteer firefighter happened to be first on the scene following the collision and began to administer aid to the couple. They were transported by ambulance to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Ft. Wayne for treatment of what Olney described as non-life threatening injuries.
Tragically, Rubin Eicher’s former wife, 58-year old Amy Eicher, was killed in August of 2011 when the buggy she was riding in was rear ended by a pickup truck in nearly the same location on Jonesville Road.
