QUINCY TOWNSHIP (WTVB-AM) — A Branch County man whose former wife was killed four years ago in a similar accident was seriously injured Sunday when his horse-drawn Amish buggy was rear-ended by a car in a hit-and-run in Quincy Township.
The collision happened at around 4:15 p.m. on Jonesville Road.
Quincy Village Police Chief Scott Olney said the buggy was westbound between Briggs and Clarendon roads when it was struck from behind and forced into a ditch.
The suspect vehicle is described as a White Pontiac Grand Prix, believed to be a 90s model of the car, possibly driven by a female. There were no witnesses to the incident.
Rubin Eicher, 67, and his 64-year-old wife Leann were ejected from the buggy, which was totaled in the wreck.
An off-duty Hillsdale County volunteer firefighter administered aid to the couple after arriving first at the scene. Eicher and his wife were transported by ambulance to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Ft. Wayne, Ind., for treatment of what Olney described as non-life threatening injuries.
58-year-old Amy Eicher died in August 2011 when her buggy was rear-ended by a pickup in nearly the same location on Jonesville Road.
