LEROY TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A Springport man wanted for burglary and gun crimes in Kalamazoo is jailed after Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies say he ran from a traffic stop in Leroy Township.
They say the 26-year-old bolted after being pulled over for a moving violation at around 10:30 p.m. Monday on M-66 near East Leroy Elementary School, running for about a mile before being cornered by officers representing multiple agencies.
Investigators later determined his car was stolen out of Chicago. His passenger, a 24-year-old woman from Battle Creek, was also booked for drugs and for being a felon in possession of a concealed weapon.
One of the sheriff’s deputies who chased the man was hospitalized for minor injuries. He has since been released.
