BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Flash Flood Water Park in downtown Battle Creek will be one of the sites taking part in what organizers hope will be a record-breaking swim lesson next Friday.
The current record stands at 32,500 swimmers across five continents.
Kimberly Walden manages the city-owned facility on West Hamblin Avenue and says 700 locations will take part this year.
“It’s a worldwide effort to combat childhood drownings and work on water safety,” Walden said.
It gets underway at 9 a.m. The first 50 participants will get in free and will be able to use the facility for the rest of the day after the attempt.
“Registration will take place at the main entrance,” Walden said. “We’ll do our 30-minute lesson, we’ll take some pictures and everybody will get a certificate.”
The Holland Community Aquatic Center will also serve as a host site. A full list can be found here.
