PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — Fire investigators in Portage say it appears a house fire in the 6400 block of Angling Road started in the basement, but they are still trying to determine the cause of the residential fire.
They estimate the blaze caused $200,000 damage to the home and its contents. .
Trucks were dispatched just after 7 p.m. Saturday and the first unit at the scene says they had a working fire in the one story brick home.
The family was not home and the fire may have gotten a head start before it was reported.
Firefighters tried to enter the home to attack the flames directly and to search for victims, but were ordered out because the situation inside the home was quickly becomeing life threatening.
They had the fire undercontrol within 90-minutes of arriving on the scene, but by then the home was gutted.
