ATHENS, MI (WTVB) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department has released more information about a Thursday night shooting incident on L Drive South in Athens Township.
The Sheriff’s Department says the shooting happened at about 6:10 p.m. when an argument broke out between five persons in a vehicle and a 23-year-old man who was in his driveway.
During the altercation, one of the vehicle occupants displayed a handgun. Multiple rounds were fired at the unnamed 23-year-old man as he tried to make a run for it.
Several rounds struck a parked motor vehicle and a nearby building.
The investigation led to an apartment complex on South Burge Street in Battle Creek where a 19-year-old from Pennfield Township was arrested for attempted murder and felony firearm.
Deputies say they recovered stolen guns along with illegal narcotics at the apartment. No injuries were reported. The case is still being investigated by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department.
