LANSING (WKZO-AM) — The gubernatorial election is still nearly two years away but we already have our first official candidate.
Mid-Michigan Democrat and former State Senator Gretchen Whitmer is the first into the pool, but certainly won’t be the last. The formal filing means she can begin to raise money.
Attorney General Bill Schuette has made it clear he intends to run in 2018, but has not formally announced. Lt. Governor Brian Calley and U.S. Congressman Dale Kildee have also been mentioned as possible candidates.
A gofundme page set up to encourage controversial National Republican Committeeman Dave Agema to run for governor has collected $620 in the last 15 days.
The goal is to raise a million. Agema has angered Democrats and Republicans alike for is anti-gay and muslim articles on social media, even earning a censure from the GOP.
