KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — A half-million dollar federal grant has been approved for the long term support of the victims of the mass-shooting in the Kalamazoo area that left six people dead last eyar.
The Michigan State Administrative Board approved the grant on Tuesday.
The funds, from the Anti-Terrorism and Emergency Assistance Program, are the first ever granted in Michigan. The program was set up after the Oklahoma City bombing to assist those victims and to help the victims of subsequent mass violence events.
The money can be spent to hire counselors to help survivors and families. It can also be used to cover medical expenses and for counseling and therapy. It could even be used to cover travel costs to alleged gunman Jason Dalton’s trial.
