KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Fewer people in the Kalamazoo-Portage area are defaulting on their mortgages.
It’s down nearly a full percent from the same month last year. CoreLogic says 4.7 percent of mortgages in the Kalamazoo-Portage metropolitan area were delinquent by at least 30 days in January.
That mark is lower than the national average of 5.3 percent, which is a 10-year low. The national figure is down 1.1 percent from last January.
The financial information firm says local and national delinquency rates are being pressured lower by steady job and income growth, among other factors.
