PAW PAW (WKZO AM/FM) — A young Van Buren County man who had been charged with open murder for the shooting death of Eddie Holland during a sour drug deal has cut a deal with prosecutors and will be allowed to plead to voluntary manslaughter.
19-year-old Thurman Fletcher Jr. reportedly told police that he and Holland struggled for the gun last February in Lyons Park in Bangor, after it fell out of his waistband.
He was wounded in the leg and foot. Holland was fatally wounded.
Fletcher will also enter a plea to a gun felony, which will add two years to his sentence, whatever he is given.
Fletcher allegedly got the gun from Nikolas Abbott, who faces an accessory charge. He is the son of Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott.
Sentencing has been set for October 23rd.
