COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The results from Girard Township in the November 7, 2017 Coldwater Community School District millage bond proposal did not change following a Branch County Board of Canvassers recount on Monday afternoon.
Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak says Coldwater resident Dan Corwin asked for the recount because he claimed the county’s new voting machines did not count all of the ballots. Corwin made the same claim in a City Council race he lost to Scott Houtz 143-140, but a recount of that election Monday confirmed Houtz’s three vote victory.
The Girard Township recount, which consisted of counting the ballots one-by-one, showed the school question was approved 155-153.
Coldwater school district voters passed the question by 120 votes 1,867 to 1,747.
Voters in the City of Coldwater helped get the proposal passed, as it was approved in the city 957-712. The no votes were the majority in Algansee, Bethel, Butler, California, Kinderhook, Ovid, Quincy #2 and Union Townships.
