BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — A shoplifter who caused a horrendous crash fleeing from police after he stole two bottles of alcohol, faces up to 12 years in prison after he was convicted on Thursday in a Calhoun County Courtroom.
20-year-old Rayjahn Heltzel of Kalamazoo had his girlfriend and their infant child in the vehicle last November as he led police away from the Meijer on Beckley Road, running red lights, until he came to the intersection with M-66, where he plowed into several cars that had the right of way.
Several people were injured, including his girlfriend and child.
He ran from the scene and was caught with a gun and now faces sentencing on a list of charges.
