BERRIEN COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — Three young men from Benton Harbor who had allegedly just burglarized a gun shop are dead and a fourth is in critical condition at a Grand Rapids hospital after a high speed chase that ended in a crash.
Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey says they got a call about glass breaking at the Black Arsenal near Stevensville and a description of a gold four-door SUV as the getaway vehicle.
A short time later a deputy spotted an SUV matching the description on I-94 and attempted to pull it over, but the suspects bolted heading south and only got a few miles before losing control and hitting a tree.
The 20-year-old driver, Jamahri Fuller, and two 17-year-olds, Davion Patton and Allan Velox were pronounced dead at the scene.
The third passenger, 17-year-old Anton Morgan is in critical condition at Spectrum Butterworth in Grand Rapids.
Sheriff Bailey says three pistols, a shotgun and five rifles stolen from the gun shop were recovered at the crash scene.
The deputies involved in the chase have been put on paid leave while State Police do a routine review of the pursuit, but a release of the dash cam video shows deputies backed off well before the crash.
