QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police say they are still investigating a shooting incident in Branch County’s Algansee Township that was first reported as a possible hit-n-run pedestrian accident, but instead was an apparent attempted suicide that has left the victim in critical condition.
Troopers were notified by Branch County 911 Central Dispatch last Thursday at around 7:20 p.m. to head to Lester Road, west of Colvin Road, to check out an unknown trouble complaint. Upon arrival, they discovered a man lying along the roadside wounded and bleeding.
Troopers said they followed a blood trail from the 20-year old victim to a home where he lived right across the road, with the trail leading into the house to a bedroom where they located a small caliber rifle.
According to State Police, the man’s parents were sleeping downstairs at the time and didn’t hear the sound of the gunshot, adding that a family member found the victim outside. He was flown by helicopter from the scene to Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne where troopers say he remains in critical condition.
