BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Officials at the Battle Creek Air National Guard base say they are still waiting for the final test results on their investigation into the use of a foam to fight fires that contained PFOs and may have contaminated the water table at the Air National Guard base and Kellogg Airport.
They say the results are being analyzed at the National Guard Bureau in Washington for accuracy.
They say the results of testing by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality in the neighborhoods surrounding the air base should be back in August.
If the contaminant is found, they are committing to do additional testing, and will begin mitigation by finding alternative sources of water for property owners.
They are also committing to maintain long term monitoring of the area to keep track of it in case the plume of contamination, if it is present, continues to spread.
