OTSEGO (WKZO AM/FM) — Otsego is the latest community to learn that it is not entirely PFAS free but at least within safe levels.
One of the city’s three municipal wells registered 11 parts per trillion, well below the 70 ppt limit. They have already taken that well off-line and will seek suggestions from MDEQ on how to proceed.
In Parchment, where PFAS levels are significantly higher, Kalamazoo City Utility crews are constructing the three water lift stations they will need to provide water to customers of Parchment’s water system.
Director Jim Baker says it will still be a few weeks before all the connections are made and the tests conducted and it will be safe for customers to resume drinking what comes out of the tap.
In the meantime, keep using that bottled water. This weekend they will be handing it out from 10am to 4pm at the High School.
City Staff also helped the maintenance staff at Parchment High School flush their system on Friday. If all goes as planned, the water supply will be switched over and certified for use before classes begin this fall.
