PARCHMENT (WKZO AM/FM) — Beginning today, nine 2-man teams of plumbers will be going from home to home in northern Parchment and southern Cooper Township, installing point-of-use filters to kitchen faucets in all the homes with private wells that the MDEQ tested for PFAS in the last month.
They plan to have nearly 200 homes equipped with the special filter that will take out the contaminant, and leave some extra filter cartridges, and have the work done by Friday.
County Health Director Jim Rutherford says it’s a temporary solution. The permanent solution will be to run city water to their homes, but that may take some time.
Rutherford says the crews this week will all be sporting special identification badges with the Kalamazoo County Logo on them, and residents should ask to see them.
The cost for the filters and the installation is being paid for by the State of Michigan.
As of today the ‘do not drink’ order remains in effect.
