BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — A Battle Creek man who tried to strangle a woman, tied her up and threatened to chop her to pieces with a machete, will be going to prison.
49-year-old Thaddeus Markham has been sentenced to 19 to 50-years in state prison for assault. with intent to do great bodily harm. Markham’s previous history of violent crimes was noted when the judge handed down the sentence this week.
Candace Gould testified that she had gotten into an arguement with Markham, who she had only known a few days, because he smoked all her marijuana while she was making a beer run in late May.
She says he punched her and choked her until she blacked out.
When she woke up she was hog-tied on the sofa and he was debating whether to kill her and chop up her body, because he knew he was already going back to prison.
She managed to escape and call police.
He won’t be eligible for parole until he is 68.
