VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — One man in his 80’s has been jailed and another hospitalized after the two collided along a rural Van Buren County Road Sunday afternoon.
An 88-year-old was riding his high-tech recumbent three wheeled bicycle along County Road 384 at about 4:45 p.m. when he was struck from behind by an 82-year-old in a van.
The man on the bike was struck from behind, and suffered injuries to his arm and head.
He is being treated at Bronson South Haven. His name and condition have not been released.
The driver of the van stayed at the scene and during questioning, officers noticed the smell of alcohol, and gave the man a field sobriety test.
He was arrested for driving while intoxicated causing an injury, booked into the Van Buren County Jail and may be arraigned Monday.
