ALLEN PARK, MI (WTVB) – The Detroit Lions have hired John Bonamego as special teams coordinator. Bonamego served in the same position for Detroit from 2013-14, and returns to the Lions after spending the past four seasons as the head coach at Central Michigan University.
He has 16 years of NFL experience, starting as an assistant special teams coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1999. Bonamego also worked with the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints and the Miami Dolphins.
The Lions have signed wide receiver Brandon Reilly to a reserve-future contract. Reilly spent the final two weeks of the 2018 season with Detroit on the practice squad.
He was originally signed by Buffalo in 2017 as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska and was on the Bills’ practice squad and active roster during his rookie season.
