SOUTHWEST MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The wind, ice and snow is continuing to create treacherous travel conditions and dozens of school closings.
— SCHOOL CLOSINGS —
All Kalamazoo and Van Buren County Schools are closed this morning.
On the college front, Kalamazoo College, Western Michigan University, and KVCC are all closed.
The updated list can always be found here.
— ROAD CONDITIONS —
Drivers that are heading out this morning should take it slow on these snowy roads, leave plenty of room between cars and even more separation for plow trucks.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller says drivers need to always be paying attention to the changing road conditions becuase they can go from can go from perfectly fine to sheer ice, especially with the snow falling on top of the already slick pavement.
— POWER OUTAGES —
While the freezing rain did not cause the kind of power outages that a similar storm caused just last week in the Grand Rapids, it has caused scattered outages in the border counties.
At 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Consumers Energy’s outage map showed about 6,500 customers without power statewide.
The updated list of outages can be found here.
