DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Jimmy Howard stopped 38 of 39 shots to lift the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Detroit Tuesay night.
Tyler Bertuzzi and Anthony Mantha scored two goals apiece while Dylan Larkin had three assists. Bertuzzi became the first player in franchise history to have three points in four-straight games. Detroit has won six straight and eight-of-nine.
Phil Kessel netted his first goal since March 14 for Pittsburgh’s lone tally. Matt Murray allowed three goals on 25 shots in the loss, the Pens’ second in three games.
The Red Wings are on the road to take on the Penguins tomorrow.
Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill will remain behind the bench after signing a two-year contract extension. He’s in his fourth year as Detroit’s head coach and served in the same position with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins from 2012 to 2015.
Blashill began his coaching career as an assistant at Ferris State in 1998. He’s also been on staff at Miami (OH) University and Western Michigan.
