BANGOR, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The first Southwest Michigan dispensary to be able to sell adult-use recreational marijuana may not be far off.
Mark Smith, co-owner of The Green Door on West Monroe Street in Bangor tells WOOD-TV that they applied for their special recreational license about a month ago, they sent their final application in earlier this week, and if approved, they could start selling in the next 2 to 3 weeks.
It has now been over a year since Michigan voters gave the ok to legalized weed in the state, and after a year of licensing and regulatory changes, legal sales began Sunday December 1st at a handful of facilities, a majority of them in Ann Arbor.
About 70% of municipalities in the state have decided to ban recreational businesses under an opt-out provision.
State retailers are estimating that they will rake in over a billion dollars of revenue from legalized weed by 2024.
There are more than six dispensaries in the Kalamazoo area, but all are currently approved for sale of medical pot only.
