KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Students at Kalamazoo Valley Community College will be paying more in tuition for the upcoming school year.
On Monday, the KVCC Board of Trustees approved new tuition rates and fees which are about a 3.6% increase for in-district residents.
The breakdown of tuition for the upcoming fall semester is as follows:
- In-district students: $114 per contact hour (3.6% increase from 2019-2020 year)
- Out-of-district students: $197 per contact hour (4.2% increase from 2019-2020 year)
- Out-of-state students: $264 per contact hour (3.9% increase from 2019-2020 year)
- International students: $299 per contact hour (4.2% increase from 2019-2020 year)
KVCC’s non-refundable general fees and non-refundable usage fees are as follows:
General Fees (applicable to all students registering for courses):
- $36 per semester enrollment fee
- $89 per semester general fee
Usage Fees (applicable only to those students using specific services/programs):
- $5 per contact hour distance learning fee for all students enrolled in online or hybrid courses
- $200 per contact hour fee for students enrolling in the same class more than three times
In a written statement on KVCC’s website, College President Dr. L. Marshall Washington stated, “In response to the increasing student demand for online courses, the distance learning fee is significantly reduced as compared to previous semesters. This overall package of tuition and fees provides students an affordable option when compared to other colleges and universities.”
On the other hand, in late April Western Michigan University’s Board of Trustees announced that they would not raise prices for students next year due to the financial uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.
